What causes Heel Pain?

Some common causes of heel pain include:

  • Plantar fasciitis: This is a condition where the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed or irritated. It often causes sharp or stabbing pain in the heel.

  • Achilles tendonitis: This is a condition where the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone, becomes inflamed or irritated. It can cause pain in the back of the heel.

  • Heel spurs: These are bony growths that can develop on the bottom of the heel bone. They are often associated with plantar fasciitis.

  • Sever’s disease: This is a condition that occurs in children and adolescents, typically between the ages of 8 and 15. It occurs when the growth plate in the heel becomes inflamed and can cause pain during physical activity.

  • Fractures: A fracture, or break, in the heel bone can cause severe pain in the heel.

  • Trapped nerves: Baxter’s nerve entrapment or tarsal tunnel syndrome

  • Inflammation of the fat pad

  • Bursitis

  • Footwear
